Our Board of Directors

Aadil works as an Associate Lawyer at a boutique law firm in Toronto and also serves on the board of directors for the Muslim Advisory Council of Canada. While completing his legal studies at Windsor Law, Aadil was involved in community-based projects advocating for local municipalities to pass emergency climate declarations and create stronger environmental protections. Aadil truly believes in working on local or community levels to create wide-scale change. With this in mind, Aadil co-founded Green Ummah. Aadil is passionate about education and is striving to open a path for Muslim youth to be innovative changemakers on environmental policy in Canada.

Hebba Fahmy currently works at Sound Vision Canada, overseeing professional development training for not-for-profit leaders and Islamic school educators. Hebba holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Industrial Relations from Queen’s University, specializing in human resource management. She later completed Montessori teacher education training and spent many years in classrooms focusing on holistic development, child-centred learning, and student leadership. As an educator, Hebba’s special interests included both global citizenship and environmental stewardship. Most recently, Hebba completed a professional certificate in Not-for-Profit Management from Western Continuing Education. She also serves on the Board of Directors at FAB (Fit Active Beautiful) Foundation.

Iman Berry is a fifth year business administration and political science at Western University and the Ivey School of Business. Iman is passionate about political activism and has worked In student advocacy groups, she is currently serving on Western Universities Senate. She is passionate about international environmental issues and has worked at the UN International Organization for Migration in the Labour Mobility and Social inclusion group addressing the upcoming issue of Climate Migrants. Iman hopes to continue to foster inclusion and justice in the environmental movement as well as explore environmental policy implications.

Mariam Rajabali is a lawyer with a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Windsor and an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Psychology from the University of Waterloo. She is deeply entrenched in community service. As a dedicated board member of multiple nonprofit organizations in Canada, her commitment to community involvement is unwavering. With a fervent passion for sustainability, Mariam co-founded Green Ummah, aiming to ignite eco-consciousness and promote sustainable daily practices. She firmly advocates that incremental steps towards sustainability and waste reduction are pivotal for systemic environmental change. Mariam’s aspiration is to empower youth and foster a greater awareness of our planet’s well-being, ensuring a sustainable footprint and a brighter future for generations to come.

Marium Nur Vahed is an entrepreneurial leader with a background in building social impact-driven organizations. Through her advocacy and non-profit work, she has driven the conversation forward on diverse issues including equity, diversity and inclusion, mental health, and civic engagement. Marium bridges disciplines through an HBA in Anthropology and Diaspora and Transnational Studies from the University of Toronto & an MSc in Digital Management from Ivey Business School – and brings this lens to her leadership. Marium co-founded Green Ummah because she believes that creating a green future – from reimagining the systems we build to the choices we make – is the challenge of our generation. She believes that in order to build this future, we must encourage innovation from all communities, including Muslim communities.

Imam Yousef Wahb is Yaqeen Institute Research Director, a LexisNexis Author, and an Islamic Law Instructor at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law. Imam Yousef holds a Masters of Law LL.M from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University. Imam Yousef also serves as a founding board member of the University of Windsor Muslim Chaplaincy, and an Islamic Compliance Advisor at Beneficent.

Lila Mansour is a graduate of the University of Northern BC (B.A.) and Lincoln Alexander Law (J.D). She has championed various social and political causes including access to justice, environmental justice, newcomer support, youth empowerment and feminist issues. While in law school, Lila founded the BC Arabic Legal Support Centre, a small grassroots organization, in an effort to bridge the dire access to justice gap faced by marginalized newcomers. In 2023, Lila was a Muslim Youth Fellow at Toronto City Hall where she led the first ever ‘Muslimahs at City Hall’ civic education event for young Muslim girls and women. Lila is passionate about empowering young Muslims to be social changemakers and environmental stewards in their communities to build a better, greener future for all.

Lila Mansour

Shaymaa Zantout is a teacher and department head at Windsor Islamic High School. She was one the first teachers of the Greening Our Communities Toolkit in 2021, and continues to teach the program in her classes, helping bring faith-based environmental education to the classroom. She holds a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Windsor, as well as a University Teaching Certificate from the Centre for Teaching and Learning. She also serves as a board member of the Muslim Chaplaincy at the University of Windsor. Shaymaa has a BA in Communication, Media, and Film Studies, and is passionate about youth education, media literacy, and community building.
