Aadil works as an Associate Lawyer at a boutique law firm in Toronto and also serves on the board of directors for the Muslim Advisory Council of Canada. While completing his legal studies at Windsor Law, Aadil was involved in community-based projects advocating for local municipalities to pass emergency climate declarations and create stronger environmental protections. Aadil truly believes in working on local or community levels to create wide-scale change. With this in mind, Aadil co-founded Green Ummah. Aadil is passionate about education and is striving to open a path for Muslim youth to be innovative changemakers on environmental policy in Canada.

Hebba Fahmy works at Sound Vision Canada as the charity’s manager of operations. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Industrial Relations from Queen’s University, specializing in human resource management. Hebba later completed Montessori teacher education training and spent several years in classrooms promoting holistic development, child-centred learning, and student leadership. As an educator, her special interests included both global citizenship and environmental stewardship. More recently, Hebba completed a professional certificate in Not-for-Profit management from Western Continuing Studies, Western University.

Iman Berry is a graduate of Ivey Business School and Western University with degrees in Honours Business Administration and Honours Political Science. Passionate about the environment and ensuring that Muslim communities have a voice in climate policy, Iman was one of the co-founders of Green Ummah. Iman has been recognized as a Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalist and Young Nature Leader of the Year in Canada. She currently works as a Clean Energy Banker at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Iman is also an observing negotiator for the Just Transition negotiations at the annual UNFCCC COP Meetings.

Marium Nur Vahed is an entrepreneurial leader with a background in building social impact-driven organizations. Marium co-founded Green Ummah because she believes that creating a green future – from reimagining the systems we build to the choices we make – is the challenge of our generation. She believes that in order to build this future, we must encourage innovation from all communities, including Muslim communities. Marium is a recipient of the Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 Award and a previous Youth Action & The Environment Fellow at the Lawson Foundation. Beyond her environmental advocacy, Marium is a filmmaker and storyteller, using film to amplify underrepresented voices and shift narratives.

Imam Yousef Wahb is Yaqeen Institute Research Director, a LexisNexis Author, and an Islamic Law Instructor at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law. Imam Yousef holds a Masters of Law LL.M from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University. Imam Yousef also serves as a founding board member of the University of Windsor Muslim Chaplaincy, and an Islamic Compliance Advisor at Beneficent.

Lila Mansour is a graduate of the University of Northern BC (B.A.) and Lincoln Alexander Law (J.D). She has championed various social and political causes including access to justice, environmental justice, newcomer support, youth empowerment and feminist issues. While in law school, Lila founded the BC Arabic Legal Support Centre, a small grassroots organization, in an effort to bridge the dire access to justice gap faced by marginalized newcomers. In 2023, Lila was a Muslim Youth Fellow at Toronto City Hall where she led the first ever ‘Muslimahs at City Hall’ civic education event for young Muslim girls and women. Lila is passionate about empowering young Muslims to be social changemakers and environmental stewards in their communities to build a better, greener future for all.

Shaymaa Zantout is an educator and member of the administrative team at Windsor Islamic High School. She was one the first teachers of the Greening Our Communities Toolkit in 2021, helping bring faith-based environmental education to the classroom. Alongside the Green Ummah team, Shaymaa also contributed to the first Nature Guide designed for Muslim families in Southwestern Ontario. She holds a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Windsor, as well as a University Teaching Certificate from the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Shaymaa completed her undergraduate studies in Communication, Media, and Film, and is passionate about youth education, media literacy, and community building.

Zunaid is a nature photographer, Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, and past President and Nominations Committee chair of the Toronto Field Naturalists based in Toronto, Canada. Born in South Africa, Zunaid moved to Canada in 1979 and has worked in the technology industry for a number of years before deciding to pursue an interest in photography and nature. Zunaid spends a great deal of time hiking in and around the Toronto area, learning about the natural world, understanding our connection to the land, and studying wildlife behaviour. This led Zunaid to become more involved in nature conservation. Through his photography and nature conservation work, Zunaid has become passionate about nature based education, improving access to nature for more all communities, and ensuring diverse voices are engaged in nature conservancy.
