Director of Finance

Commitment: Approx. 6-8 hours per month

Role Overview:
The Director of Finance serves as a key member of Green Ummah’s volunteer Board of Directors, providing strategic oversight and leadership of the organization’s finances. This individual works closely with fellow board members and an accountant to ensure transparent, accurate, and compliant financial management that supports Green Ummah’s mission and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the management of Green Ummah’s finances, ensuring sound fiscal practices and accountability.
• Work with an accountant, or if comfortable and able, work independently, to complete annual tax filings and maintain compliance with all government reporting requirements.
• Process and document payments, reimbursements, and receipt of funds and grants in a timely and organized manner.
• Manage staff payroll and ensure employee payments and deductions are processed accurately and on schedule, and the proper tax remittances are paid to the CRA.
• Monitor and report on the organization’s financial position, including its capacity to take on new projects or initiatives.
• Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
• Participate actively in Board meetings and contribute to overall governance and direction.
• Prepare annual financial report in accordance with Green Ummah’s bylaws.

Qualifications:

• Background in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA designation an asset, but not required).
• Experience with financial management and/or reporting for non-profit organizations preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to environmental sustainability and alignment with Green Ummah’s mission and values.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
