The Green Ummah Blog (GUB) is a research-based platform dedicated to publishing original work at the intersections of Islam, the environment, and the climate crisis. Our goal is to make research accessible and relevant to both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences by raising awareness of environmental challenges and highlighting Islamic spiritual and practical approaches to addressing them.

How have Muslims historically understood and interacted with the natural world? What role did Islamic institutions play in protecting, or exploiting, the environment? This topic invites exploration of how earlier Muslim communities perceived nature, how they practiced environmental stewardship, and how these insights can deepen our own recognition and reverence for the natural world today.
Effects of Climate Change on the Muslim World
What are the real-world consequences of the climate crisis and how are they shaping Muslim societies? This topic highlights the impact of climate change across the Muslim world as well as within Muslim communities in the West, expanding readers’ awareness beyond their immediate surroundings.
Islamic Tradition and Environmental Care
What responsibilities does Islamic tradition place on humans in caring for the environment? Drawing on the Qurʾān, Prophetic traditions (sunnah), and Islamic theological, legal, and spiritual teachings, this topic encourages analysis of how Islamic sources can inform a holistic Muslim response to today’s environmental challenges.
Climate Action and Practical Solutions
What initiatives are Muslims leading to confront the climate crisis and promote sustainability? What models or frameworks can be adapted for Muslim communities? This topic aims to showcase ongoing projects, practical strategies, and adaptable solutions that can inspire and guide future climate action within Muslim contexts.

To have your work considered for publication, please begin by submitting a query for feedback from our editorial team. Queries should:

If the query is approved, the editorial team will invite the author to submit a full blog post of 1000-1500 words. After submission, the piece will be reviewed by members of the editorial team and, where applicable, by external reviewers before a final decision is made regarding publication on the GUB.
